Working out in New York has always been a thing for me. When I get into a particular gym or type of exercise, I really go for it. Many of my close friends are people I’ve met in classes — especially the ones from the crazy ass hard, but amazing, military style boot camp I did for years and years. Many, many people I know from that are friends for life. Maybe it’s because we sweat all over each other on a regular basis. I mean, I have swallowed most of my friends and acquaintances sweat drops as they held my legs or arms during some crazy ass hard sit up insanity. Working out at that boot camp was like forced intimacy — and as a result, we’re all really good friends. (Lesson — if you want to make friends in New York, go to boot camp. Warrior Fitness Boot Camp. Tell Ruben and Alex that Menta sent you.)
Right now, I’m totally into hot yoga. Not Bikram. It’s more like a regular flow class — but in the hot room. It’s really great. It’s hard — it’s sweaty — and it works for me in my post brain explosion world. The one thing that I will say though is that people who do hot yoga tend to be weirder than the average New Yorker. I’m not sure why, but I think what I say is true. Tonight I practiced next to the Monica Seles of yogis. I mean, she was MOANING, not breathing. Her sex sounding sighs were so loud, I could NOT concentrate or get my yoga zen on at all. All I could think about was sex and if I would ever have it again after Fucker the Psychopath dumped me so dramatically in October. I also couldn’t help but wonder why this woman felt the need to MOAN loudly all during the class — and I wondered if anyone else noticed or if it was just me. It didn’t feel very yoga like to moan. I think breathing is just fine — and really the goal of the class.
Despite the weirdos, I love my yoga studio. I am not going to name it because I don’t want you to find out about it. It’s already a bit too crowded with all the fuckers who are still on their New Year’s resolution vendettas. I can’t wait until they give up in February so I can go back to my yoga in peace.
Namaste and happy weekend.
